Hello bookworms! It’s Nia, and today I’m going to talk about my top 5 favourite sci-ci and famtasy covers. Now I’m a sucker for a beautiful cover (I think we all are!), so obviously a few have come to my mind when I looked at my bookshelves.
If you aren’t familiar with Top 5 Wednesday, it is a Goodeads group now currently run by Sam over at ToughtsOfTomes on Youtube, where each week they give you a topic and you talk about 5 books that fit that topic. You can join the group here if you want to participate.
They are in no particular order, just as they came to my mind. Without any further ado, let’s start with my favourite covers!
A Crown of Wishes | Roshani Chokshi
This cover is gorgeous! I really love the combination of purple and green. The font it’s pretty simple but I like how it goes with this cover, because I think a more complex font would be a little bit extra and ruin the image.
Also I think this covers complement really well with the story. Even though I haveb’t read this particular book yet, Roshani’s writing is so magical and ethereal and the cover inspires me that too. So extra kudos to that!
Their Fracture Light | Amy Kaufman & Meagan Spooner
Okay guys, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t buy these books just for their covers! Because they are sooo stunning. I adore them.
I have to say I’ve only read the first book but I really enjoyed it, even though I don’t usually read sci-fi. But I own the entire series and I love looking at these books on my shelves.
The third and last one is my favourite, because I love purple! And also I bough this book when I went to London with a friend, so it kinda has a special place in my heart.
And I Darken | Kiersten White
Everytime I look at this book I’m like WOW THAT COVER! Just take a moment and look at it.
This cover is so simple yet soo beautiful. Again, it has purple in it so it inmediatly caught my attention. Also maybe the fact that I’ve heard that it was a retelling of Vlad the Impalor but gender changed had sonething to do with that but.. shhh.
And it’s so sad because the paperback version has a very ugly cover, and it has nothing to do with this one. This made me want to grab the book and read it, the other made me cringe and want to hide it on the basement. And I know the quote ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover‘ but… I think we all sometimes do that.
Strange the dreamer | Laini Taylor
Okay this one was cool when I searched it on amazon, but when I saw in on person it was incredible! It even has blue edge pages! And I love rare books with the edges coloured.
I think the drawing is so beautiful, and the gold with the lapis lazuli go SOO good together.
Passenger by Alexandra Bracken
Another cover buy here! The only thing I knew about this book when I bought it was that it was time travelling, but the cover was so beautiful I had to buy it.
The cover of the sequel, Wayfarer is also stunning (and has violet colours!).
And because I couldn’t pick just five because there are such stunning covers in the market, I’ll add one more.
The Raven King | Maggie Stiefvater
Well.. this technically isn’t a fantasy book, it’s more in the sci-fi genre, but it really is confusing because it has magical realism and paranormal elements in the series so I really don’t know where to place it.
However this covers are incredible. Especially this one. The art and colours are soo beautiful I fell in love with it.
Also the books are incredible and weird and I really recommend them if you haven’t read them yet.
