Wrap- Up | May 2017

Hello bookworms! I’m Nia and today I’m going to be talking about the books that I’ve read this month.

May was a pretty decent reading month to me. I managed ro read a total of 11 books! Yes, I know, there are less than last month but LET ME TELL YOU: I had (and still have) a horrible reading slump at the end of May. I hate when that happens, but I’ve tried to read so many books and it’s a struggle to continue! So maybe June would be better (?).

Dearest Clementine | Lex Martin

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

My thoughts: This was a re-read for me because I’ve already read the first two books and I want to finish the trilogy this year. But this is one of my favourite NA contemporary romances. I loved the characters so much and it was so nice to read about them again.

I totally suggest it if you’re looking for a light, NA contemporary!

Synopsis

Twenty-year-old Clementine Avery doesn’t mind being called bitchy and closed off. It’s safe, and after being burned by her high school sweetheart and stalked by a professor her freshman year of college, safe sounds pretty damn good. 

Her number one rule for survival? No dating. That is until she accidentally signs up for a romance writing class and needs material for her latest assignment. Sexy RA Gavin Murphy is more than happy to play the part of book boyfriend to help Clem find some inspiration, even if that means making out…in the name of research, of course. 

As Gavin and Clem grow closer, they get entangled in the mystery surrounding a missing Boston University student, and Clem unwittingly becomes a possible target. Gavin tries to show Clem she can handle falling in love again, but she knows she has to be careful because her heart s at stake and maybe even her life.

The Disappearances | Emily Brain Murphy

Frost Like Night | Sarah Raasch

My thoughts: Despite giving the second book in the series three stars, I have to say I LOVED this one. I think it was a great way of ending the series, and a realistic ending. I loved the action in the book and how different the characters were from Snow Like Ashes. So I’d say if you didn’t like the sequel just continue with the last one because it’s completely worth it!

Dangerous Girls | Abigail Haas

My thoughts: *RTC* but I adored this book so freaking much and it was a really good psychological thriller. I have to say I knew what happened since the very begining, and that’s why I didn’t give it five stars.

Synopsis

It’s Spring Break of senior year. Anna, her boyfriend Tate, her best friend Elise, and a few other close friends are off on a debaucherous trip to Aruba that promises to be the time of their lives. But when Elise is found brutally murdered, Anna finds herself trapped in a country not her own, fighting against vile and contemptuous accusations. 
As Anna sets out to find her friend’s killer, she discovers hard truths about her friendships, the slippery nature of truth, and the ache of young love.
As she awaits the judge’s decree, it becomes clear that everyone around her thinks she is not just guilty, but dangerous. When the truth comes out, it is more shocking than one could ever imagine…

Deeper | Robin York

My thoughts: I got recommended this book and I was super excited. I liked it but it was like any other NA already out, and I had mixed feelings about the characters. I really liked the message it gave, though.

Synopsis

When Caroline Piasecki’s ex-boyfriend posts their sex pictures on the Internet, it destroys her reputation as a nice college girl. Suddenly her once-promising future doesn’t look so bright. Caroline tries to make the pictures disappear, hoping time will bury her shame. Then a guy she barely knows rises to her defense and punches her ex to the ground.

West Leavitt is the last person Caroline needs in her life. Everyone knows he’s shady. Still, Caroline is drawn to his confidence and swagger—even after promising her dad she’ll keep her distance. On late, sleepless nights, Caroline starts wandering into the bakery where West works.

They hang out, they talk, they listen. Though Caroline and West tell each other they’re “just friends,” their feelings intensify until it becomes impossible to pretend. The Book of Ivy | Amy Engel

My thoughts: I really enjoyed it. The world is the classic dystopian one you see in every other book, but I really liked the relationship between Amy and Bishop and her development during the book. AND THAT ENDING OH MY GOD.

Synopsis

After a brutal nuclear war, the United States was left decimated. A small group of survivors eventually banded together, but only after more conflict over which family would govern the new nation. The Westfalls lost. Fifty years later, peace and control are maintained by marrying the daughters of the losing side to the sons of the winning group in a yearly ritual.

My name is Ivy Westfall, and my mission is simple: to kill the president’s son—my soon-to-be husband—and restore the Westfall family to power.

The Crown’s Game | Evilyn Skye

My thoughts: *RTC*. I really really enjoyed this book. I was a little aprehensive when people compared it to The Night Circus because the ones I’ve read because of that ended up disappointing me. This however, did not.

I loved the world and the magic system and it brought me a lot of nostalgya and made me want to pick up The Night Circus again. It had some unexpected turns I enjoyed, and I’m super excited to pick the next one because the ending left me a bit unstable.

Synopsis

Little Monsters | Kara Thomas

My thoughts: *RTC* but I really liked the book! I didn’t know much about it but when I got an ARC and read the blurbed I was super excited to read it. I loved how thrilling and addicting it was, and how it made me want to continue reading to know what happened.

My main problem was with the ending and especially the epilogue. I didn’t find it necessary and would like an explanation lf other sorts.

 Synopsis

Kacey is the new girl in Broken Falls. When she moved in with her father, she stepped into a brand-new life. A life with a stepbrother, a stepmother, and strangest of all, an adoring younger half sister.
Kacey’s new life is eerily charming compared with the wild highs and lows of the old one she lived with her volatile mother. And everyone is so nice in Broken Falls—she’s even been welcomed into a tight new circle of friends. Bailey and Jade invite her to do everything with them.
Which is why it’s so odd when they start acting distant. And when they don’t invite her to the biggest party of the year, it doesn’t exactly feel like an accident.
But Kacey will never be able to ask, because Bailey never makes it home from that party. Suddenly, Broken Falls doesn’t seem so welcoming after all—especially once everyone starts looking to the new girl for answers.
Kacey is about to learn some very important lessons: Sometimes appearances can be deceiving. Sometimes when you’re the new girl, you shouldn’t trust anyone.
