Most Surprising Books of 2018

Hello bookworms! I’m Nia and today I’m going to be talking about some surprising reads I’ve come across in 2018.

I’m so sorry for being MIA this past few weeks, but I’ve been pretty busy and also sick and I didn’t really feel like writing anything or schedule any posts, so that’s why. However, I’m going to try to be more active and respond to your comments in the next days!

Anyways, today I’m going to be talking about some books that I really enjoyed in 2018, but because either I’ve read something by those authors before that I didn’t enjoy or wasn’t expecting much about them, I consider them quite surprising because of how much I loved them.

Without any further ado, let’s start with my most surprising books of 2018!

Truly Devious | Maureen Johnson

Ellingham Academy is a famous private school in Vermont for the brightest thinkers, inventors, and artists. It was founded by Albert Ellingham, an early twentieth century tycoon, who wanted to make a wonderful place full of riddles, twisting pathways, and gardens. “A place” he said, “where learning is a game.”

Shortly after the school opened, his wife and daughter were kidnapped. The only real clue was a mocking riddle listing methods of murder, signed with the frightening pseudonym, Truly Devious. It became one of the great unsolved crimes of American history.

True-crime aficionado Stevie Bell is set to begin her first year at Ellingham Academy, and she has an ambitious plan: She will solve this cold case.
