Top 5 Wednesday

Favorite Fancasts | T5W

Hello bookworms! I’m Nia and today I’m going to be talking about some of my favourite fancasts.

Now I’m terrible when it comes to this. I’ve been thinking about this topic for two whole weeks and my mind just blanked out everytime I tried to write it, so here we are now, on time trying to think about it again. No, but really. I have tons of real life people I think match with certain book characters, but I froze and only came out with the first six that came to my mind, so hopefully it’d be enough.

If you aren’t familiar with Top 5 Wednesday, it is a Goodeads group now currently run by Sam over at ToughtsOfTomes on Youtube, where each week they give you a topic and you talk about 5 books that fit that category. You can join the group here if you want to participate!

Without any further ado, let’s start with this week’s topic!

Blake Steven as Richard Campbell Gansey III

My thoughts: Ever since I started reading this series I couldn’t help but picture Gansey as him, because that’s exactly like I imagined Gansey would be (minus the blue eyes, but you know what I mean). He has that vibe that the character has, and well, he’s incredibly cute and adorable. And yes, he’s a model and not an actor, but guys, it doesn’t really matter when you’re picturing someone in your head. He just has to look the part and done.

It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.

Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.

His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.

But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

Adrew Gardfield as Young Remus Lupin

My thoughts: To my credit I have to say a lot of people agree with me in this particular one. And just… look at him! If there’s a chance that we get a prequel of Harry Potter following the marauders, or just a film, Andrew Gardfield is the perfect actor for that role. Not only he looks like the younger version of Remus Lupin, but he can act (duh). So there’s that.

“Welcome to the Knight Bus, emergency transportation for the stranded witch or wizard. Just stick out your wand hand, step on board and we can take you anywhere you want to go.”

When the Knight Bus crashes through the darkness and screeches to a halt in front of him, it’s the start of another far from ordinary year at Hogwarts for Harry Potter. Sirius Black, escaped mass-murderer and follower of Lord Voldemort, is on the run – and they say he is coming after Harry. In his first ever Divination class, Professor Trelawney sees an omen of death in Harry’s tea leaves… But perhaps most terrifying of all are the Dementors patrolling the school grounds, with their soul-sucking kiss…

Alex Pettyfer as Jace Wayland

My thoughts: Now I’m not going to be getting that in depth with this one because long story short: he was the one I pictured in my mind when I first read The Mortal Instruments and there were no movie/TV adaptations, and he’s still the one I picture (even though Jamie Capbell did a great job at portraying Jace). So, even though now there’s an actual face to Jace’s character, to me he’s still Alex Pettyfer.

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder― much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing―not even a smear of blood―to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know…

Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey as Tessa Gray

My thoughts: Technically she’s a model but she’s also been in a few movies, so it’s not a complete waste of time, guys. I always find a bit hard to fancast people, because in my head I mix a lot of famous ones and create a new character completely, but I have to admit Àstrid was the closest I could find to Tessa Gray that actually looked like the one I pictured in my head. And that’s why she’s in this list. I know (and hope) The Inferal Devices stay untouched for a very long time, but when I re-read the books? Yup, definitely Tessa.

The year is 1878. Tessa Gray descends into London’s dark supernatural underworld in search of her missing brother. She soon discovers that her only allies are the demon-slaying Shadowhunters—including Will and Jem, the mysterious boys she is attracted to. Soon they find themselves up against the Pandemonium Club, a secret organization of vampires, demons, warlocks, and humans. Equipped with a magical army of unstoppable clockwork creatures, the Club is out to rule the British Empire, and only Tessa and her allies can stop them…

Lydia Graham as Blue Sargent

My thoughts: Yes, another TRC fancast, what can I do? I love the series so much. But really, I have a vivid image of Blue in my head, and to me, she’s a gypsy. It makes sense if you think about it, and it would be amazing if the TV series she looks like one. However, I think Lydia Graham would be an amazing Blue, again minus the eyes. She has that Blue vibe and also the short and dark hair, so if I have to choose someone to play her, it would be Lydia.

Matthew Daddario as Dorian Havilliard

My thoughts: I decided to add a bonus one, because well… I felt like doing so *whoops*. I was discussing this specific topic with a friend a few months ago and we both agreed that Matthew would be great for the role. He’s not as I imagined him at the beginning of the series, but I think he would be great and the character suits him quite much, so now that we know the series is going to be on TV… *winks*.

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king’s council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for four years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilarating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her … but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead … quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.
