Nia’s Chit Chats: Things I’ve Been Adding To My Journal + Update

Hello bookworms! I’m Nia and today I’m going to be talking about my bullet journal and updating you.

I’ve seen you really enjoyed these type of posts in the past, so here we are again! In my last post I mentioned I wanted to be a bit more artistic with my bullet journal, because I want to start drawing again and creating my own illustrations, so I decided to incorporate my own drawings in my journal.

Now I’m not the best illustrator out there: in fact I was so bad at drawing people at high school that I used to avoid it as much as possible. I like to draw portraits, but when it comes to creating characters, I’m not that great. So this’s been a challenge so far, and even though these drawings aren’t the best, I still want to practice and continue doing them, and maybe one day I’ll become a pro *laughs*.

Now something I’ve been doing for a few months is my cover page and calendar. I like my new month to start in a new page, so I usually dedicate two pages only just for the monthly covers. In one of those I usually print a photo I find on Pinterest or WeHeartIt, and on the other page I draw something. They both have something to do with that month’s theme, which was Peter Pan for March.

I tend to think about my monthly themes a few weeks earlier, mostly so I can search images and print them beforehand. I don’t follow anything in particular. Lately I choose my monthly themes based on books, shows or movies I’ve bee loving lately. In this case, it was because I really adored Tiger Lily and wanted to do a Peter Pan related month.

My calendar is still the same. I honestly found a bigger calendar like this much more helpful and easier to follow, rather than a smaller one I had when I first started bullet journaling. I also really like to have my TBR next to my calendar. I like to color all the books and then underline the ones I’m either currently reading or have already read, because when I didn’t do it that way, there was something missing.

My next pages are blog related pages. This has been super helpful for me, especially since I started blogging. It helps me to keep track of new releases (I know a few people who have all yearly releases in the same post, but I like it more like this), the reviews I have to write, posts I want to write that month and books I’ve bought that month. It’s super easy when I have to write a post to look at those pages, and I’ll definitely keep using that.

My sleep tracking is also the same as the previous months. I really enjoyed the dreams section, because I have very vivid dreams, and sometimes I like to read them and revisit them. They are super weird, and having them written down in a page is so fun to do, though I have to admit that sometimes I forget my dreams and I cannot write them down there.

Something new I decided to add this month was a page counter. Ever since I did one last ContemporaryAThon to count the pages I read each day I completely fell in love with the method, so I decided to incorporate one each month, so that’d be easier to see my reading process. I have until 400 pages, and I think I won’t update it in a future, because I usually don’t read that much, but as you can see there were a couple of days that I read more than 500 pages (I was sick and didn’t feel like doing anything, so I read, haha).

I also wanted to add a moon calendar, because I love the moon. I said it. I found it super intriguing and whimsical, and most of the time my moods tend to relate with the moon phases, so I found an image on Pinterest and decided to create my own twist. And since I had a blank page next to it, I wanted to doodle something, and that’s what it came out.

And last but not least, my weekly spreads. I’ve been experimenting with my weekly spreads lately, trying to do different things to see what I liked the most, and to be honest, I think this is my favorite so far. I’ve also been trying to write down how was my day or what’s been in my mind lately, and I’ve been loving that.

It’s been really relaxing to me to do this method, so I think I’ll continue with these spreads. Like I mentioned before, this month’s theme was Peter Pan, so I tried to look up some quotes and pictures related to that and print them on my journal. And let me tell you I’ve in love.

I also added a water tracker and songs I’ve been listening that week, because my mood and songs I listen to often are related. I wanted to keep track of the amount of water I drink everyday (spoiler alert: I drink A LOT of water), and I’ve been doing it for a few months already and really liking it, so I’m pretty sure I’ll keep doing it in future months.

And that’s basically it, guys! There aren’t a lot of changes in this journal, and I’m sorry for that, but I still wanted to show you what’s been working for me in case you want to start journaling, and the things I decided to add, so I hope it was helpful. I love doing these type of posts, because they inspire me and I hope to inspire a few people to start journaling, because it’s so good!

  1. I wish I was this talented to make my own bullet journal – I always look at them on social media and wish upon a star but couldn’t draw more than a stick man, even if my life depended on it. lol So pretty 🙂 Keep up the good work. 🙂

    1. I honestly thought the same, but then I decided to take a chance and create my own, and it’s been amazing so far! I try to mix doodles with actual pictures, because sometimes I’m quite lazy, but thank you💕.
