Hello bookworms! I’m Nia and today I’m going to be talking about some authors that I’ve discovered this year.
I have to tell you… I’ve read a LOT of books this year. I’m still surprised by the amount of them I’ve finished, so yes, I’ve discovered some new authors I’ve adored with all my heart, and some that I didn’t like their books as much. In this case, I’m going to be talking about authors whose books I’ve really enjoyed, and I’m interested to read more from.
If you aren’t familiar with Top 5 Tuesday, it is a group here on WordPress now currently run by Shanah over at BionicBookWorm, where each week they give you a topic and you talk about 5 books that fit that category.
Without any further ado, let’s start with this week’s topic!
Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Yes, I’ve discovered Jennifer Lynn Barnes this year, and I wish I had it before, because her books are amazing. I’ve only two of her mystery/crime series, but they were amazing and probably have become some of my favourite reads of this year. I love her writing and the way she kept surprising me with each book, and I’d love to read another crime book by her.
I have a review of The Naturals, Killer Instinct, All In and Bad Blood, as well as The Long Game, in case you’re interested.
Abigail Haas
I cannot believe I haven’t read anything by her until 2017, because I loved her books. I really hope she’ll publish more books, because there are only two out and I need MORE. I’m obsessed with how twisted both of her books were, and despite being slightly predictable to me, I admit that they were really well done, and they were two really good psychological thrillers, so please, let her publish more thrillers!
I have a review of Dangerous Girls and Dangerous Boys, in case you’re interested.
Mindy McGinnis
Believe it or not, I discovered Mindy McGinnis this year, with The Female of The Species, and I adored that book so much that I immediately wanted to read everything she had published. She has a very interesting way to tell a story, and I’ve noticed that all the ones that I’ve read tend to be a bit darker and twisted than expected, so it’s always nice to pick up one of her books. I have to say though, that even though I loved dearly two of her most recent books, I didn’t like one of her previous novels, but I’m still interested to read more by her.
I have a review of This Darkness Mine, in case you’re interested.
Emily Henry
If you’ve been following this blog for a few months, you probably may know that I’m obsessed with A Million Junes. I freaking adored that book, and yes, it’s one of my favourites of 2017 so far. I loved how beautifully written the novel was, and basically everything. It was touching, dark and lovely. However, the truth is that I hadn’t read anything by her before, so that must change. I’d already had her other book on my TBR, but I’m interesting to reading more by her.
I have a review of A Million Junes, in case you’re interested.
Anna-Marie McLemore
I know, I know, shame on me. I feel like Anna-Marie McLemore’s books are so praised and well known that it’s almost crazy to not have read any of her books, and I have to say I own all of her books and plan to continue reading them in the future, because after reading Wild Beauty I fell in love with her writing and the way she tells us a story. It’s so whimsical and magical I couldn’t help it. So not only I’ll be reading her two books that are already published, but I’ve already added her other novels she will be publishing in the future.
I have a review of Wild Beauty, in case you’re interested.
What authors have you discovered in 2017, and which ones were your most and least favourite? Let me know if you’ve read any books by the authors I’ve mentioned above or if you have them on your TBR!

It was an amazing book. I didn’t think I would love it as much as I did, but I really want to re-read it soon and re-visit those characters💕.

Great post!
Mindy McGinnis was new to me too this year & I really enjoyed The Female of the Species— I unfortunately didn’t like This Darkness Mine as much though. I’ve really enjoyed reading psychological thrillers this year and Dangerous Girls has been on my TBR since I read E.Lockhart’s Genuine Fraud, so I’m happy to see that you had such positive thoughts on DG!

Dangerous Girls was amazing! I have to say I figured everything out at the beginning of the story, but other people didn’t and I honestoy think it was an amazing thriller!❤️

I’ve only ever read A Madness So Discreet by Mindy McGinnis and it was wonderful! I loved her writing style so much. I need to read more from her! And for some reason I felt like Anna Marie McLemore would have been older…. LOL!! I don’t know why! Great list and thanks again for participating!

i also first read Abigail Haas book this year, Dangerous Boys, and it was okay for me in terms of enjoyment, but it definitely a book that leaves an impression. However, I do heard that Dangerous Girls is sooo much better than it, so I plan to read it in January!

I’ve read both this year and I looved Dangerous Girls way more than her other work. The story was much better, in my opinion😀.

Great post. I have a similar one planned for sometime in the next week or so. Seemed like a fun idea to highlight new authors (debut and old) in 2017. I’ve never heard of any of these authors but Abigail Haas’ books look interesting; I’ll have to look them up on Goodreads.

Indeed! It’s really interesting to see how many authors you’ve discovered in a year and if you’ve enjoyed their books! I’ll definitely be doing more like this in a future.
